The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, UK
Studio Birch regularly collaborates on architectural competitions, ranging from small retail or residential concepts to larger civic and institutional proposals. What we love most about these projects is the chance to work closely with creative design teams and contribute meaningfully to the process that often operates under tight competition deadlines.
One of our highlights was working on a competition proposal for The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn designed by Medical Architecture and White Arkitekter. We created an image that brings the design to life, capturing not only the spatial functionality but also the atmosphere from a user’s perspective. The careful placement of elements, activity, and character interactions played a key role in conveying the narrative of the space

The Walled Garden, Cheshire, UK
Studio Birch was commissioned to produce a visualisation showcasing a contemporary home arranged around a welcoming courtyard, set just beyond the edge of the Peak District National Park.
Working closely with the design team, we explored a range of viewpoints and lighting scenarios to help the architects select the composition that most clearly communicated their vision.
The surrounding landscape was carefully recreated in 3D to reflect the natural beauty and distinctive character of the site. Materials were applied in accordance with the architects’ specification and the base model was refined by adding roofing details, trims and shadow gaps alongside curated landscaping and assets to enhance realism and atmosphere.
We’re proud this image formed part of a winning submission at the Manchester Society of Architects Awards 2024 in the Unbuilt Private House category.

Testimonials: “Our studio worked with Studio Birch for the first time in December 2023 to create a visual of a new-build eco-home we were designing. They helped us develop the design further and also helped in choosing complementary materials for the landscaping and house itself. We would definitely recommend working with Studio Birch.” Anabelle & Co.
Fenwick Department Store, Newcastle, UK
We were approached by Mailen Design to create images which would blend the existing parts of Fenwick’s flagship Newcastle department store and the context of Northumberland Street with the new elements proposed by the architects in a seemless and realistic way.
As with all projects requiring precise photo-matching, we handled the planning and the execution of site photography to ensure accurate alignment of angles and lighting during the postproduction stages. Having capability to handle photography across the UK and Europe as well as parts of the US, we often get involved in projects which require photo-matching.
In addition to image production Studio Birch was also responsible for the design and sourcing of the assets for window display to decorate the new shopfront proposed by the architects. The activity both inside and outside of the store played an important role in creation of the visuals and was aimed at bringing life into the image without taking away the focus from the proposed architectural elements.
Following delivery of the initial set of visuals, we worked closely with the client to provide updates in line with evolving design, supporting the planning application process.
The images have received wide media coverage, including features by BBC, iTV, Business Live, Chronicle Live, Fashion Network, Retail Gazette and others.

Courtyard Residence in Phoenix, Arizona, US
Having extensive asset libraries and the ability to efficiently source new elements, we create landscapes tailored to specific regions—featuring planting native to various climates around the world. We had the opportunity to collaborate with Blank Studio on a series of visualisations for a courtyard residence in Phoenix, Arizona, where the landscaping reflects the distinct character of the local desert environment.
During the image planning stage, we explored a range of camera angles and lighting scenarios, allowing the client to select the compositions that best represented their vision. In addition to image production, Studio Birch handled site modelling based on provided maps, courtyard landscape design, FF&E and dressing to bring the spaces to life.

Studio Birch was commissioned to create a series of interior and exterior architectural visualisations for Berry Bros. & Rudd, Britain's oldest wine and spirit merchant and an official wine supplier to the British Royal Family. The project involved the sensitive restoration of a 140 years old Grade II listed building at the prestigious London address, 1A St James’s Street along with the adaptation of its interiors to create a refined retail space featuring a dedicated Whisky Reserve, as well as tasting and consultation areas.
As with all projects requiring precise photo-matching, we handled the planning and execution of site photography to ensure accurate alignment of angles and lighting during the postproduction stages. The photography was carrefuly carried out and composed to minimise visual distractions, excluding unwanted traffic and creating a calm, uncluttered view that maintains focus on the architecture.
The exterior image is a seamless blend of the exsisting architecture and its urban context, offering glimpse into the newly arranged ground floor interiors along with the addition of proposed canopies and new lighting scheme that illuminates the façade.
Interior images showcase the new spacial arrangement of the spirit shop featuring a selection of bottles from the client’s range, each modelled and textured in-house by Studio Birch to display within the proposed joinery. Staff in aprons and elegant attire along with target audience were carefully chosen to add authenticity and bring the scene to life.
